Review of The Mexican on Filmviews.net
Year2001 ReviewerChris Docker
Snappy and stylish, this film is essentially a reasonable low-budget style movie seriously enlivened at the last minute, it would seem, by casting two top film stars in the leading roles. Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts act their parts (as brainless, argumentative but committed lovers) to the hilt. They are a delight to behold in every scene. The story follows the trail of their attempts to locate and deliver an ancient gun ("The Mexican") in the crossfire of gangsterland political machinations. The script keeps you on the edge of your seat - which is useful, as the twists and turns of the plot - for more than two hours, are not quite enough to sustain knuckle-edge interest on their own.
