Review of The Hole
Year: 2001 Reviewer: Chris Docker
A brilliantly atmospheric opening features a blood-stained teenage girl emerging from a wood and stumbling into a select public school and a phone. The scream she emits must be one of the best in cinematic history. It prepares us for a nightmarish descent into the hell-hole suggested by the title. Unfortunately, what we get is simply a stumble down an incline into a script that is unable to live up to its original promise. Four teenagers in an underground bunker, enjoying the party till they find they can't get out. Sadly, neither plot nor execution can save us from an hour and a half of wondering if it will gain its initial momentum.
