Film Review of Men of Honor
Year: 2000 Reviewer: Chris Docker
A semi-biographical account of how one man (apparently) overcame racial and disability prejudice in the US Navy diving core, the film bites off more than it can chew, going on far too long and laboring its points while self-righteously ignoring the fact that there needs to be a continuous momentum for a film that lasts well over two hours, with rather smaller chunks of time to digest and reflect on a message that has been stated more or less at the outset. Ends up as a tribute rather than just entertainment, although we might have expected more of the latter from the all-star cast.
