Film Review of Magnolia
Year: 1999 Reviewer: Chris Docker
Magnolia is a film that goes on and on and on - a soap story whose characters are mostly too ordinary to be interesting. The valuable meditations on isolation and death hardly justify the interminable interweaving of trivial plotlines.
Several characters stand out - Tom Cruise in a part to die for, Julianne Moore does well, and an obnoxious child genius are all quite memorable. I found myself watching in boredom waiting for these characters to next appear and do a turn.
A film you will probably remember, at least for some of the people in it, but not necessarily one you will enjoy sitting through.
